What is the difference between the evaluation, education and complete license?

In evaluation mode (which does not require registration), you can use all the functionality of the software but you cannot save any of the information you entered. Consequently, when you quit the software, all information you entered during a session will be lost. In the educational version, only a limited number of feed ingredients, feeds and animal profiles can be saved. The complete version (which requires purchase of the software) has no data limit. Differences between the versions are summarized here.

Do I need to register InraPorc?

You do not need to register InraPorc if you only want to evaluate the software. Registration of the educational and complete version is required as we would like to get an idea of the impact (and usefulness) of the software. Your suggestions on how to improve the sofware are therefore greatly appreciated.

How do I register InraPorc?

Please read the instructions for the educational or complete versions.

How long is my license activation key valid?

License activation keys are typically valid until December 31st of the current year. Licensees of the complete version will receive automatically a new activation key in December by e-mail. Licensees of the educational version have to request a new license activation key every year. This can be done by uploading the current InraPorc.lic license file using the on-line license activation key request form. We will then generate a new license activation key, which will be sent to you be e-mail.

Will upgrades to InraPorc be free?

Minor upgrades will be free of charge and the same licence activation key can be used for minor upgrades. Major upgrades of the complete version may require a purchase.

Can I install InraPorc on more than one computer?

The complete version cannot be installed on more than one computer. You will need to purchase an additional license if you wish to use InraPorc on more than one computer (e.g., a desktop and a laptop computer).
The educational version of InraPorc can be used by more than one computer if you install it on a shared network drive (e.g., for teaching purposes in a classroom setting). Please read the installation instructions for the educational version before installing InraPorc on a network drive).

I changed my computer and now InraPorc no longer works

This is because the license activation file (InraPorc.lic) uses information from your disk. As you changed your computer and your disk, the license activation key no longer corresponds to your system and you will receive an message that the licence key is invalid or has expired. You can request a new (and free) license activation key by uploading the file InraPorc.lic to our server. Make you sure that you upload this file from your new computer so that the information from your new disk is uploaded as well.
For your information, it is the disk volume number that we use in checking the validity of the license. You can view the information that you send during the upload process or by opening the file InraPorc.lic with a text editor (e.g., Notepad).

Why does InraPorc run in "read only" mode?

There may be two reasons for this. It may be that you exceeded the data limit for your (evaluation or educational) version of InraPorc. Another reason is that your current license activation key is not valid. The validity of a license activation key is determined by user information and computer system information, the expiration date (December 31st) and the version of the software.
If your license activation key is invalid because you changed your computer (or computer parts), you may request a new license activation key. To do so, open the license window, verify the information, and click on the 'OK' button. Upload the file InraPorc.lic using the on-line license activation key request form for a renewed validation. It will be sent to you free of charge. Please note that a license activation key is valid only for one computer.
If your license activation key has expired, you may request an updated one. Licensees of the complete version have received an updated license activation key by e-mail in December. Licensees of the educational version of InraPorc should request an updated license activation key each year. This can be done, free of charge, by uploading the current InraPorc.lic license file using the on-line license activation key request form.

Does InraPorc work with Microsoft Vista?

Yes it does. However, there are a few things that require special attention during the installation process.
You have to have administrative rights to install InraPorc in the "program files" directory (i.e., in C:\Program Files\InraPorc). This can be done by running the InraPorc install program as administrator. If you do not have administrative rights for your computer, either install InraPorc in a user directory or contact the adminstrator of your computer. We suggest the following procedure for using InraPorc under Vista:

Contact us in case you have difficulties with getting InraPorc to run in Vista.

Can I share my data sets with other users?

To some extent, you can.
It is not recommended to share your data set directly with other users (e.g., by sharing a disk drive). InraPorc was not designed for simultaneous access to the data by multiple users. The best way to share your data is by copying all the files in your data directory and send these to another user. The reason that all files must be transferred is that there are many links between the different files (e.g., a simulation is based on a feed sequence plan, which is based on different feeds, which may be based again on different feed ingredients). If you do not want to share all your data (e.g., because it contains sensitive information), you may print the parameters of different feed sequence or rationing plans or animal profiles and share these with other users. For feeds and feed ingredients, you may also use the import/export utility to share information with other users.
If information is shared between users using different license versions of InraPorc, please take care to respect the data limit of the license version (for the evaluation or educational versions). If you exceed the data limit, InraPorc will work in read-only mode.

Can I use InraPorc in another language?

The InraPorc program is currently available in French, English, German, Dutch, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese and Polish. Other languages may become available in the future. You can switch between languages using the configuration menu.
User data files are created for a single language. Consequently, when you change the language of the program, all data (e.g., names of animal profiles, feeds) will be given in the language in which they were created. If you want to have your data files available in a different language, you have to create separate data directories for each language.

I cannot see the topics in the Help file

This is most likely due to the fact that the InraPorc program and its help file are is installed on a server. Microsoft has re-enforced the security mesures which, by default, will not display topic files from compiled help files (*.chm) that are located on a server. The problem can be overcome by installing the InraPorc on a local disk. Aternatively, you may change the registry settings in windows allowing compiled help files located on a server to be displayed (please consult the Microsoft knowledge base on how to do this)
